In order to use the squash courts facilities people need to become a member of Barnes Sports Club. The joining fee is £20.50 and then the annual subscription is currently £120 running from October to September each year. If somebody joins part way through the subscription year, the figure payable for that year is pro-rated by the months outstanding to the year end.
Once somebody has become a member the court lights operate via a token system. Each token provides lighting for 40 minutes and cost £4.00 for social and league games alike – there is a “warm-up” lights facility so you get the most from your game. The tokens are available in the club house, from behind the bar, on a simple book-out and cash box system.
Ordinarily a court can be readily obtained at most times, even traditionally peak hours – however there is a simple booking sheet on the wall in the court building for those wanting to book specific times and ensure obtaining a court.
Access to the courts operates on a swipe card system and there is also a key for the changing rooms for anybody wishing to change/shower at the club.
We currently operate a league system which is very sociable, rather than too serious, and the leagues operate on a calendar month basis throughout the year. The winner of each league gets promoted and the unfortunate looser of each league demoted. On Wednesday evenings (7.15 – approx 9.30) we have a club night which anyone can turn up to and pay to play – so if anyone has the desire to come along one week and try it out, new guests are always welcome. We normally have 4-6 attendees on a typical evening so you generally get a few games against mixed competition.
For any further information, or to obtain a membership form, please do not hesitate to contact our Squash Secretary Jason Pior on 07921 772187.
